agnes martin retrospective

This tuesday I took a 4 hour train to Düsseldorf to finally see the big Agnes Martin retrospective which I couldn't see in London last summer.
What a day, and what an inspiration! Agnes Martin dedicated her whole life to painting.
As always, one cannot grasp this in reproductions, but standing in front of an artwork of hers is something else. They are so quiet, so pure and so incredibly beautiful, one cannot help but feeling calm, and experiencing something like a moment of perfection.

This is exactly what I am trying to achieve with my work. When the shapes align and you feel: this is just right. This can stay like it is, and by looking at it the viewer can maybe also get that feeling of stopping a moment in space in time and just experience the present, observe what is there.

We all need calm and beauty in our life, nowadays even more so. Spending all day on the media, getting one information after the other, it is good to have an artwork at home which reflects beauty and reminds you of the essential.

I have an earlier entry in my blog about Agnes Martin here
